Sebastian Foss-Solevaag Claims Slalom Gold

Sebastian Foss-Solevåg won gold in the Men’s Slalom at the Cortina World championships. The Norwegian beat Adrian Pertl by 0.21 seconds. World Cup Slalom champion Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway finished 0.46 behind in third.

The last Norwegian man to collect a medal in this event at the world championships was Lasse Kjus in 1999 (silver).

"I know that the two guys in front, Alex Vinatzer, and Adrian Pertl, can also put it together and it was a fight from the start to the bottom, but I did it. To finish in the second run with a huge lead was such a great feeling (...) It’s amazing to finish off like this. The slalom has been really good this year", Foss-Solevåg said.

After leading the first run Adrian Pertl finished in the second position.

"I tried to do the same as in the first run and it went very well and I’m very happy. It was very hard. You have two minutes standing before the start gate, thinking about it", Pertl said.

Austria has won a record 42 medals in total in the Men's Slalom. Switzerland had held until today the record for most medals in a single event: 42 in the Men's Downhill.

Henrik Kristoffersen won the Men's Giant Slalom world title in 2019. Today's bronze is his second medal to date in a world championship.

"Amazing skiing from Sebastian in the second run. We’ve been training so much together in the years that we’ve been skiing World Cups so it’s really cool to see him taking the step and now winning his second race -after team parallel gold on Wednesday- and first individual medal so that’s really cool and, yes, super happy with the day", said Kristoffersen.

"It’s been a year with some up and downs so far. I know I have maybe the top speed in slalom but it’s been up and down, like I said, and I’m very, very happy with the medal today", the Norwegian added.

In an unusual rule change, racers flipped the top 15 for the second run, which was criticized by athletes and coaches.
